At the end of each chapter in Prodigal Gospel I include a prayer. These are little prayers I wrote in response to the content of each chapter. They’re a small part of the book but honestly, they are some of my favorite moments from the book.
Below I’ve shared one of those prayers. My hope, or you could say pray, for these prayers is that they would be a helpful way of engaging or re-engaging faith.
God of good parties, help us party like Jesus. We’ve seen that you are at work, throwing the best party where everyone is welcomed, included, and transformed. But we confess that our parties don’t always look like yours. We curate guest lists for our own comfort and reputation. We sit in positions of honor, ignoring the gifts and worth of others. Confront our parties with the wild goodness of your own. Please expand our tables so that everyone has room to belong. Turn our water into wine because our party has gotten a little stale and we need you to turn up.
Amen.
P.S. We ran out of ice.
